How to Wear Suspenders Video

Posted by Lance Miller On June - 27 - 2009

This video explains how to wear suspenders with a suit. As explained here, the pants of the suit need to have buttons fitted on the inside of the waistband to connect the suspenders to. This is the only proper way of connecting your suspenders with the pants and is in line with the suit etiquette. Belt loops should be removed when you bring your pants to a tailor to have him put the buttons in. Otherwise it looks a bit silly.. Enjoy the video on how to wear suspenders, and enjoy wearing your suspenders!

Michael Jackson in the Suitorialist

Tribute to Michael Jackson

Last Thursday, it took me several minutes to realize that Michael Jackson had deceased. I double-double checked and it seemed reality; they only played MJ on the radio. He was a musical genius, but at the same time, a troubled man. However, his originality will always be a memory of us. To commemorate MJs originality, a Suitorialist on MJ.

How To Clean Your Suit

Posted by Bobby Humphrey On June - 24 - 2009

Do not panic

The first lesson on how to clean your suit is the easiest: do not panic! Suitsociety will guide you through the cleaning process with these simple 4 steps.

Step 1. Gently try to brush off the stain with a soft brush in a one-way direction. It is important not to make circular movements. This could press the stain even deeper in the fabric and damage the suit forever.

Step 2. Use a minimal amount of hot water to gently wetten the stain. Wetten only the stain, not the clean fabric around it to avoid unnecessairy wear of the suit. Be carefull not to soak the suit in water.

How to Pack your Suit in a Suitcase

Posted by Lance Miller On June - 20 - 2009

Pack Your Suit in a Suitcase!

Here at the Suit Society many of us travel for work and leisure. The best way to pack your suit when you travel is either in a suitcase such as shown in the pictures below, or you may use a suit carrier to store your suit and check in this bag as hand luggage. The advantage of a suit carrier is that you are surer the suit will survive the trip without too many creases. However, you will have to carry it yourself during the entire journey.

This suit carrier is quite luxurious and handy since its different compartments leave room for your passport, iPod, magazines etc.

Roy on his bicycle

Posted by Lance Miller On June - 20 - 2009

Profession: Sales

I ran into Roy this morning on his bicycle at Hofplein, Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The leather bag, the slim-fitted jacket, pants and made-to-measure shirt with open buttons… Roy never closes the buttons of his shirts, not even with French cuffs. This looks great on him because he has his shirts made-to-measure and bespoke tailored, which means that the length and fit of the sleeve are perfect for his body.

Thomas Pink

Posted by Bobby Humphrey On June - 17 - 2009

Blending classic and contemporary

When you think of pink, think Thomas Pink. Founded in London, this craftsman’s store originated from Jermyn Street, a street notable for its shirt makers. Its name came from an 18th century tailor known for making much desired red/pink hunting jackets. Nowadays, Thomas Pink has spread it contagious enthusiasm for quality fits, fabrics and colours around the world with a collection that will even startle the most conservative suit. However, according to the shirt etiquette a breast pocket should never accompany a modern man’s shirt. Typically the breast pocket is used to keep one’s pens and glasses, which reflects a ‘worker’s shirt’ rather than a neat business shirt.

I personally love the way in which Thomas Pink manages to blend classic jacket, shirt and tie patterns, such as stripes, checks and spots, with contemporary colours.  Its famous Black Label shirt is tailored on an authentic block and consists of 38 separate components, with a 14-piece, hand-turned collar. Hungry yet?

Oger

Oger, best shopping experience in The Netherlands?

Oger Lusink, the man behind the Oger company, brand and stores has an interesting sartorialist history.  When he was 18 years of age he started working in a suit store in Amsterdam, after which he did an internship on Savile Row (suit Mecca in London!). In 1989 he founded the Oger company, which has grown to a full suit-service venture that offers ‘corporate fashion’, ‘travelling tailoring’, the best Italian brands and their own ‘Dressed For Success’ label by Martijn Lusink who remains inspired by the youthful energetic Italian attire culture.

Marocco, Tanger - The stylish market vendor

Posted by Lance Miller On June - 7 - 2009

Model Name:  Mr. Kasmi

Job: Market vendor

Photographer: Lance Miller

I was in Tangier with 8 friends two weeks ago and spotted this gentleman. He was the only ‘well-dressed’ market vendor out there and took great pride in his clothing, which clearly set him apart from the rest of the market vendors. When I approached Mr. Kamsi to ask him for a photo, he nodded politely and stood up straight, showing joy and pride of his style. I like very much how he wears a beenie and a woolen jacket with 25 degrees Celsius. Stylish market vendor..
