Matching Socks with Suits

Matching Socks with Suits

Welcome back dear readers. In my last article we discussed the triple points of a suit: matching the shoes, belt and watchband. When you have successfully scored your triple pointer, it’s time for some in-depth advise on your socks. What kind of materials or colors should you wear?

There is some tolerance in fabrics, but always separate your casual socks from your business socks. Business socks are thinner, more comfortable to wear with your shoes and tend to have dark colors. Whether you want to wear wool or cotton, they are both fine. My advice to you is to always check the label on the socks if they contain any synthetic fabrics. Even a 10% synthetic sock could lead to a unpleasant surprise when taking of your shoes. However, the easiest rule is to feel the fabric and decide on the softest one.

Brunello Cucinelli

Cashmere at its best.

”Work, which is considered an expression of a person’s value, also becomes a part of one’s spirituality and achieves the higher aim of the Supreme Good” - Brunello Cucinelli.

Brunello’s work is done with passion from Solomeo, a medieval village where his fortress (workplace… J) with an incredible yard stimulates his and his colleagues creativity. It serves them well. And us too, we are served amazing natural shades of cashmere garments that are quite unique in its kind. Brands like these, which do not produce or sell the quantity of Ralph Lauren… are just amazing.

I love the handglove in the pocket of the jacket, used as a ‘pocketsquare’..!!

Match your shoes, belt and watchband: Triple Points

Posted by Bobby Humphrey On July - 22 - 2009

Triple points

So you are looking for that killer look. You have successfully found a tailor and a fabric that brings something new to the table. The next step is to complete your appearance with the accessories; the shoes, belt and watch. Preferably, all three should have the same colour and material. Do not mix suede shoes with a smooth leather belt, or even worse, black shoes with a brown belt. However, there is some tolerance in the watchband colours and materials. Let’s start from the bottom up: the shoes.

Always start with the shoes before you purchase your belt. It is easier to find a belt with your new shoes than to find shoes with your new belt. Decide on the type of fabric; smooth leather, suede or creased leather, shiny or matte, light or dark coloured. I personally prefer monk shoes because they are so easy to wear; just strap ‘em on. However, most people will start with laces.

Thomas is one of her buddies in London with whom she studies Finance and Investment Management. The outfits are great!! Thomas which brands were they?

Hans Ubbink

Art meets fashion..

Hans Ubbink is notoriously known for his unique creations. A Dutch designer with a twist. A man who sometimes comes across more of a philosopher than a fashion designer. He posts photos of his trainees and staff in a small photo cubical at a train station on his website. His authentic work and lifestyle is what friends of mine say inspire them to buy his clothing.

How to Tie a Tie, the Full Windsor

Posted by Lance Miller On July - 4 - 2009

This movie explains how to tie a tie with a full Windsor knot. The full Windsor knot is a much favored knot, how many men prefer this style? My personal favorite is the Neapolitan knot with two tie dimples. Still, it would be quite boring always wearing the same knot. This type of knot is especially suitable for cut-away collars. Enjoy the video on how to tie a tie, the full Windsor knot.

Linen Jacket, Awaiting Summer

Posted by Lance Miller On July - 4 - 2009

Profession: Founder & CEO of a software company

I ran into this gentleman this afternoon at the Central Station in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The business-casual look with the hat and his linen jacket are reflecting his desire for summer!! The weather in the Netherlands is a topic that all the Dutchies love to hate on most of the time. But not when the sun’s out. Great shirt and jacket combination!
