Sir Max

Posted by Lance Miller On January - 30 - 2010

Sir Max is an unique shoe store in the Netherlands

I was in Amsterdam on the 21st of January 2010 and was advised by a friend to visit Sir Max in “De Negen Straatjes“. Got shoes??? Eduard and Arthur will hook you up. Their collection of shoes is very impressive, especially for Dutch standards. Next time you are in Amsterdam try and visit them, it’s a short walk from Dam Square..

How to dress on Casual Friday?

Posted by Bobby Humphrey On January - 20 - 2010

Casual Fridays & Smart Casual

This morning I spoke to a friend on the phone and we talked about his profession. He works in the pharmaceutical business.  As a product manager, he wears suits every day (he loves to wear suits). He told me that you could really see the difference between the suits and style of product managers and product-group managers. The difference in job level is also reflected in the style of the outfit; the product-group managers try to look better than the product managers. Why can’t we all look great at entry-level? There is however a day in the weekly life of people were they can be themselves: the Casual Friday (or Dress-Down Friday). Unless you have important meetings, most companies allow you to dress more casual as a first step into the weekend.

Paul Smith

Posted by Lance Miller On January - 16 - 2010

Paul Smith, contemporary Englishness.

Paul Smith is probably one of the most recognized fashion designers in the world since his garments are for the young and old, men and women, trendy and classis. I really enjoy wearing certain Paul Smith garments. His materials are good, either from Italy, France or the UK. And the designs and details are unique. You are not wearing a simple shirt or a trouser, the details Paul Smith adds makes for all the difference.

The man:

As a businessman he is doing rather well. Especially in Japan he became raging popular and has over 200 shops there. His history is somewhat different from those of the other fashion designers since he wanted to become a professional cyclist but was forced to quit after an accident and sort of rolled into the fashion industry. From then on, his creativity and playfulness in his designs and projects with other companies made him famous.

How to wear the correct sleeve length of your suit?

How to wear the correct sleeve length of your suit?

Different people make different choices, but everybody should let their sleeves of the shirt pop out a little bit. How much exactly? That is where you can let your creativity kick in. You should always take two aspects in account; the sleeve length of your shirt and the sleeve length of your suit.

A sleeve is defined as something that covers your arm, not your arm and hand. From this basic principle, we can continue our story.

How to Tie the Perfect Tie

Posted by Lance Miller On January - 9 - 2010

Tying a tie is something that most men hate, but not here on the Suit Society.

Though ties are usually not very comfortable to wear since the collar of the shirt needs to be closed and rubs the neck skin, they can make or break an outfit. The tie adds perhaps the most value to someone’s appearance. A man wearing a suit and a shirt alters the entire outfit with a tie.

How to wear a hat with your suit

Posted by Bobby Humphrey On January - 6 - 2010

Hard hat vs Soft hat

As a younger lad, I have always worn baseballcaps to prove my support to my favorite team. They kept my head warm and just like superdandy Beau Brummel, I never took off my hat ’cause it would ruffle my ruffled hairdo. As the weather is getting colder outside, I long for something that can keep my head warm and looks better than the average sailors bonnet.

White Tie

Posted by Lance Miller On January - 2 - 2010

white_tie_650x400

White tie is a dress code that is also known as cravate blanche and evening dress. White tie should only be worn after sundown (18:00) or if there is no other way you may wear it before sundown with a black vest. You need a black tailcoat that is cut in a way that resembles a double breasted jacket. The tailcoat is never closed. You also need black pants with a satin strip, a white French cuffed shirt with a patricide collar (winged folded points), a white vest and a white self tie bow tie. Black long socks are to be worn with the black varnish shoes. You do not wear a belt or a watch, which is similar to the black tie dress code etiquette. A white pocket square or boutonnière could be worn.
