A term used to classify ‘work class’ people.  Many years ago the dress shirt was invented and only available in white. Since a white shirt easily gets dirty, some people started experimenting with dying the shirt in different colors. The blue shirt shows dirt less than a white shirt. White is still regarded as the only appropriate color shirt for some occasions like weddings, or it may be the dress code of very formal or strict institutions.
