How To Clean Your Suit

Do not panic

The first lesson on how to clean your suit is the easiest: do not panic! Suitsociety will guide you through the cleaning process with these simple 4 steps.

Step 1. Gently try to brush off the stain with a soft brush in a one-way direction. It is important not to make circular movements. This could press the stain even deeper in the fabric and damage the suit forever.

Step 2. Use a minimal amount of hot water to gently wetten the stain. Wetten only the stain, not the clean fabric around it to avoid unnecessairy wear of the suit. Be carefull not to soak the suit in water.

Step 3. Genlty repeat step 1

Step 4. Air the suit in a cool, prevably open space in your home. Using a blow dryer also works.  The result should be a clean suit.

If these four steps did not clean your suit, it is time to bring your local drycleaner a visit. I would recommend not to bring your suit to the drycleaner too often as it will shorten the life span of the suit and with that your ability to wear your favorite outfit. Try to find a good, respectable drycleaner that will do the job properly, such as www.alexdryclean.com in San Fransisco. You could ask your colleagues where they bring their suits in case of a stain. Another good advice is to walk into your favorite menwears store that sells brands such as Etro, Suitsupply and Corneliani, and ask them where they bring their suits in case of an emergency. It is likely that these stores will only use the best drycleaners as they represent the best fashion brands in the business. When you have found a top-notch drycleaner, firstly inform them of the location and the type of stain they are dealing with. They may choose different cleaning materials for optimal results.

Note that the best remedy is prevention; always respect the vulnerability of your suit. This vulnerability is what gives your suit its natural look and comfortable wear.
